SJR State golf classic raises funds to benefit athletic scholarships and facilities
The St. Johns River State College Athletic Association recently hosted its fifth annual golf classic at the Palatka Municipal Golf Course. Thanks to the more than 100 participants, sponsors and Beck Automotive Group, the athletic department will continue its recruiting efforts with additional funds for its four athletic programs.
Congratulations to the team winning first place gross - Greg Bacon, James Griffith, Jim Reynolds and Danny Wilhite.
The first place net foursome winners were, Chris Bates, Kyle Nail, Austin Owens and Scott Westney.
The second place gross winners were, Charles Lyon, Tim Keeley, Barry Mast and Tom Sykes.
Second place net went to players Kyle Coleman, Phil Leary and Scottie McManus.
Bobby Stevens won closest to the pin, and Kyle Coleman won longest drive. Charles Lyon won the putting contest sponsored by Badcock Home Furniture & More of Palatka.
Athletic director and head baseball coach Ross Jones would like to thank additional tournament sponsors including Florida Radiation Oncology Group (FROG), Seminole Electric Cooperative, Inc., as well as many individual sponsors.
