SJR State President chairs Council of Presidents

St. Johns River State College President Joe Pickens, J.D., begins his elected term as Chair of The Florida College System (FCS) Council of Presidents this month. Comprised of the presidents of all 28 colleges within the Florida College System, the council serves as the deliberative body on issues and matters of concern to Florida's public college system.

In addition to proposing an annual legislative agenda and budget request for the FCS, the council advises and advocates for the state and federal executive and legislative branches, the Chancellor of the Florida College System, the Commissioner of Education, and the State Board of Education on behalf of Florida's public colleges.

As chair, Pickens will preside at council meetings and serve as a spokesperson for the council and a liaison for the chancellor of the Florida College System, the Commissioner of Education, and the State Board of Education. The chair also appoints members to serve on committees and serve as liaisons to other groups and organizations.
