Gov. Scott appoints two as SJR State Trustees


St. Johns River State College welcomes new members to its District Board of Trustees. Denise M. Bramlitt of East Palatka and Colonel Joseph "Mickey" Duren of St. Augustine were recently appointed by Governor Rick Scott.

SJR State President Joe Pickens, J.D., said the College welcomes its newest Board members and honors the service of its outgoing members, Carl Beck and Preston Sloan. "We are honored to welcome these dedicated and talented individuals to our Board," Pickens said. "Their diverse background, professional successes and community connections will be a positive contribution to our students, the College and its future growth."

Pickens said the College was fortunate to have the outstanding foresight and direction of Board members Beck and Sloan, whose leadership made a permanent and progressive impact on the College and its recent developments.

Bramlitt, 54, has been the owner, secretary and treasurer of Bramlitt's Inc. since 1980. She has also been the business administrator for the Water's Edge Land Trust since 2005 and served on the board of directors of the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce from 2010 to 2011. She succeeds Sloan and is appointed for a term beginning February 23, 2012, and ending May 31, 2014.

Colonel Duren, 55, has served in the Army National Guard since 1975 and has been the director of logistics for the Florida Department of Military Affairs since 1984. He was president of the Florida National Guard Association from 2009 to 2010. Duren received a bachelor's degree from Regent College and a master's degree from the United States Army War College. He succeeds Beck and is appointed for a term beginning February 23, 2012, and ending May 31, 2014.

Currently serving on the Board is Chairman Diane Leone representing St. Johns County, Vice Chairman Rob Bradley and Ron Coleman representing Clay County, John Nelson and Mary Ellen Webb representing Putnam County.

SJR State serves approximately 11,000 students in Clay, Putnam and St. Johns counties and offers two baccalaureate degrees, more than 40 associate in science degrees, college credit and vocational certificates in addition to offering the associate in arts degree (transfer degree).

St. Johns River State College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate and baccalaureate degrees.
