SJR State Press Release
February 2012
Rising Star Juried Art Exhibition at Florida School of the Arts
On Saturday, February 25, the Florida School of the Arts will hold an opening reception and awards presentation for its Rising Star Juried Art Exhibition. The reception will begin at 4:30 p.m. and will be held in the main gallery located on the Palatka campus of St. Johns River State College. The exhibition will be on display through March 10. Gallery hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Florida School of the Arts Gallery Coordinator Sarah Alexander said the exhibit will feature works submitted by 11th and 12th grade students throughout the state, including entries from St. Augustine, Nease and Wekiva high schools. The show was juried by Alexander and Florida School of the Arts Dean Alain Hentschel. "We chose work that was executed well technically and was especially thought provoking," said Alexander. "We chose work that went above and beyond in terms of craft and ability, but also demonstrated an interest in communicating or evoking an idea or mood to the viewer," she said.
A $500 grand prize will be awarded, as well as prizes for second and third place.
Florida School of the Arts is part of the academic and administrative structure of SJR State College and awards the two-year associate degree.
