Tyler Humphreys named NJCAA All-American

It continues to be a stellar year for Viking baseball player Tyler Humphreys. Humphreys was recently named a Third Team National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-American. He is one of only four athletes from Florida to earn this national recognition.

In addition, Humphreys was recently a 7th round draft pick for the Arizona Diamondbacks, a 210th overall pick, in the MLB draft.

Humphreys, an infielder from Crystal River, led the nation with 18 home runs this season. As the Vikings’ third baseman, Humphreys hit .347 with 12 doubles, 2 triples, 18 home runs and 57 RBIs.

Earlier this season, he was named the Mid-Florida Conference Male Athlete of the Year. He was also named to the 2014 All Mid-Florida Conference baseball team and is a two-time NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Baseball Player of the Week.

Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach Ross Jones said as impressive as the home run totals were, Tyler was also one the best defensive players in the state. "Humphreys played every inning of all 51 games, and committed only six errors for the season for a .969 fielding percentage," Jones said. "We are so proud of Tyler," Jones said. "He has worked extremely hard these last two years and is very deserving of this recognition. He has been a pleasure to coach and has been a leader on and off the field.”
