Florida School of the Arts announces 2015-16 season

Florida School of the Arts announces a variety of performing and visual arts events to enlighten and entertain with its 2015-16 season. Dean of Florida School of the Arts Alain Hentschel said the season includes something for everyone - from Agatha Christie’s murder mystery "The Mousetrap" to the musical comedy "The Addams Family." Musical theatre enthusiasts can expect a concert featuring the music of American composer Stephen Sondheim. 

Also included this season are the annual dance performances, where the dance, costume and stage design programs join together to create a colorful and exciting evening of ballet, jazz and modern dance.

The visual arts calendar will be equally diverse with gallery shows exhibiting drawings, paintings and sculptures by a variety of artists and students.

The season begins September 3 with an exhibition titled "Dark City:  Urban America at Night," featuring photography by New York City artist Lynn Saville.

October 1 - 4 - "Blithe Spirit," a comedy by Nöel Coward
October 29 – November 1 - The Musical Theatre Project:  "Simply Sondheim" - concert featuring music of American composer Stephen Sondheim
November 20 - 22 – Dance Choreography Gala
December 6 – Musical Theatre Vocal Company Concert
December 10 - 11 - Final Scene Performances
February 25 - 28 - "The Addams Family," a musical comedy by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa, book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice
March 24 - 27 - The Actors’ Project: "An Evening of Absurdity in Two One-Act Plays"
April 17 – Musical Theatre Vocal Company Concert
April 21 - 24 – An Evening of Dance
April 28-29 – Final Scene Performances
June 16 - 19 - "The Mousetrap," a murder mystery by Agatha Christie

September 3 - Gallery Opening – "Dark City:  Urban America at Night," Lynn Saville, photographs
October 22 - Gallery Opening – "Weightless Drifting," Audrey Phillips, acrylic and mixed media paintings
January 14 - Gallery Opening – ZOOM:  Student Art Show
February 18 - Gallery Opening – "Intersection," Robert Coon, sculptures and drawings
April 14 – Gallery Opening – Graduate Exhibition
May 19 - Gallery Opening - Graduate Exhibition

Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and during main stage performances.

Florida School of the Arts is part of the academic and administrative structure of St. Johns River State College and awards the two-year associate degree. It is located on the SJR State Palatka campus. Admission is based on audition and portfolio review.
