Viking Volleyball player signs National Letter of Intent
St. Johns River State College volleyball student-athlete Julianna Hicks recently signed a National Letter of Intent, advancing her academic and athletic career to the university level.
A middle blocker for the Vikings, Hicks has signed with Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, where she will major in animal science. Hicks leaves SJR State with the record for the seventh most kills in a career and the fifth most kills per set in a career. She has the record for the second most solo blocks in a career, the second most block assists in a career, and the third most total blocks in a career.
According to SJR State Head Volleyball Coach Matt Cohen, Hicks started every match in her two-year career at SJR State. She was named to the All Mid-Florida Conference second team following the 2015 fall season. As a freshman, she was named a Mid-Florida Conference Scholar Athlete and Florida State College Activities Association All-Academic.
Cohen said the TSU Texans finished the 2015 season with a 27-7 record, winning the Lone Star Conference. They advanced to the NCAA Division 2 National Tournament as well.
Cohen said he and his staff could not be more proud of Hicks. “Juli has been a two-year captain and has shown tremendous leadership abilities during her time here. We are thrilled to see her move on to TSU,” he said.
