This week, St. Johns River State College highlights Viking baseball pitcher Kyle Kalbaugh.  The sophomore from Reddick, Florida served the Vikings primarily as a relief pitcher, starting only two of the 26 games in which he participated this season.  Kyle amassed an impressive 58 strikeouts in the 73 innings he pitched, averaging over seven strikeouts per game.  With an earned run average of 1.60 for the season, Kyle collected 10 wins and two saves for the Vikings and was recently named the Mid-Florida Conference Pitcher of the Year.    Kyle also earned Mid-Florida Conference All-Academic honors in his freshman season.   He has signed a Letter of Intent to play for the University of North Florida, where he will major in sports management.

“Kyle is an outstanding individual who excels in the classroom and on the field,” said SJR State Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach Ross Jones.  “He is the perfect example of what we at SJR State expect from our student-athletes.”

The Vikings finished their regular season at 44-8, ranking number one in the state polls and number two nationally.   The team recently won the Mid-Florida Conference Championship for a third consecutive season and will travel to Lakeland on May 8 to participate in the NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA State Tournament.
