Non-credit art classes offered to the public

David OuelletteSt. Johns River State College will offer two art classes this spring on the St. Augustine campus.  The non-credit courses will be taught by local artist and Florida School of the Arts instructor David Ouellette.    

Drawing I – This course will provide students an opportunity to develop basic drawing techniques by concentrating on the elements of descriptive drawing through observation. Students will study the qualities of line and volume with a full range of values as well as linear perspective and compositional design. The six-week class will meet from 3:00 – 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, from March 24 through April 28, in room S132.  The class will be limited to 12 students.   

Fundamentals of Art (Watercolor) - This course will focus on the techniques of transparent watercolor using both the “wet” and “dry” methods.  Students will learn the unique characteristics of the watercolor medium, its possibilities and limitations, as well as the special papers and brushes used in the execution of art works. There will be regular critiques for the assigned exercises.  The six-week class will meet from 3:00 – 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays, from March 26 through April 30, in room S-132.   The class will be limited to 12 students.  

Registration fees are $62.50 for each of these courses, and there are no requirements or prerequisites to register.
