Davide Quellette Non-credit art history classes offered to the public

St. Johns River State College will offer two art history classes this spring on the St. Augustine campus.  The non-credit courses will be taught by local artist and Florida School of the Arts instructor David Ouellette.    

Art History IB – This course will cover Early Medieval Art in Europe from 500 CE through the Carolingian and Ottonian Ages to the Romanesque and Gothic Periods.   Topics of study will include architecture, sculpture, ornamental art and illuminated manuscripts.  The five-week class will meet from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, from February 3 to March 3 in room S-114 on the St. Augustine campus.

Art History IIB – The Rise of Modernism.  This course will study the development of art from the late 19th century influenced by the industrialization, exploration, and colonization by Western Europe and America, as well as the effects of world wars and economic depression.  Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Symbolism, the Avant-Garde, and a multitude of cultural and social movements are reflected in 20th and early 21st century art.  The five-week class will meet from 3:00 -5:00 p.m. on Thursdays, from February 5 to March 5 in room S-114 on the St. Augustine campus.

Registration fees are $45.00 for each of these courses, and there are no requirements or prerequisites to register.
