St. Johns River State College Athletic Director Ross Jones has announced the year’s top student-athletes. Sophomore volleyball setter Jenna Swaffer was named the female Student Athlete of the Year. A native of Henderson, Nevada, Swaffer recorded 645 digs, 79 aces, 92 blocks and 110 kills during her career as a Viking and will leave SJR State with a total of 1,894 assists – the most in Viking volleyball history. In addition, she has been named to the Florida College System Activities Association All-Academic Team, is an NJCAA Academic All-American and a Mid-Florida Conference Scholar Athlete. Swaffer recently signed with Warner University in Lake Wales, where she plans to major in exercise science.
Viking baseball outfielder Johnny Blue-Craig was named the male Student Athlete of the Year. The sophomore from Tallahassee ended regular season play with a .255 batting average and a .451 slugging percentage, including four home runs, eight doubles, 25 RBIs and 15 runs scored. Defensively, he has a perfect fielding percentage with no errors in the 38 games in which he has played. Blue-Craig has been recognized twice as a member of the All-Conference Academic Team, twice for the All-State Academic Team, and is an NJCAA Academic All-American and Pinnacle Award Winner.
