Nursing students present “Cultural Health in our Communities”

While many people are familiar with the nursing skills necessary to assess and treat patients, most are not aware of the importance of being culturally cognizant within the health care profession.

"Being culturally aware and competent is vital when caring for patients in the health care arena. It is essential to be knowledgeable of how different cultures and religions perceive and cope with illness and health," said nursing instructor June-Marie Mair, RN, MSN.

Students enrolled in Mair’s adult health class have prepared a presentation that demonstrates that there's more to the nursing profession than meets the eye.

The students were assigned to collect data related to health and culture specific to their respective counties.

The SJR State college community is invited to experience the presentations at the following locations:

Orange Park Campus (Gallery area)
July 21 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Palatka Campus (Library entrance)
July 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

St. Augustine Campus (Gazebo area)
July 22 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
