Florida School of the Arts instructor presents “An Elegant Evening”

Erica Williams

Florida School of the Arts adjunct instructor Erica Williams will present “An Elegant Evening.” The vocal recital features Williams singing a variety of musical pieces ranging from classical songs and arias to gospel spirituals. The performance will be on May 9 at 7:30 p.m. on the Florida School of the Arts Main Stage located on the St. Johns River State College Palatka campus. Admission is free and the event is open to the public.

The musical repertoire of “An Elegant Evening” is comprised of music from George Frideric Handel, Richard Strauss, Henri Duparc, Gaetano Donizetti, George Gershwin, Ricky Ian Gordon and Robert L. Morris. “I chose the music based on what speaks to me and how it fits my voice,” Williams said.

With a master’s degree in voice from the University of Florida, Williams brings years of experience to FloArts and views the recital as a teaching opportunity. “I feel that it is always important for students to be able to see what their instructors can do,” said Williams. “It feels amazing to be able to introduce people to music they might not have heard before and to share my gift with others.”

Williams will perform in two additional concerts - at the Kanapaha Presbyterian Church in Gainesville on July 25 and a South Florida concert set for September 5.
