Palatka Mayor Terrill Hill

St. Johns River State College will celebrate its spring commencement on April 30. The College will acknowledge the associate and baccalaureate degree candidates, as well as its certificate candidates, from the Orange Park, Palatka and St. Augustine campuses.

The spring commencement is set for 11:00 a.m. at the Thrasher-Horne Center located on the SJR State Orange Park campus. Doors will open at 9:30 a.m.

SJR State President Joe Pickens, J.D., has announced Palatka Mayor Terrill Hill as the commencement speaker. The Palatka native began his collegiate journey with a football scholarship to Howard University in Washington, D.C. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Florida and opened his legal practice in 1999.  Hill was inducted into the Putnam County Black History Hall of Fame, and in 2012, he was recognized by the National Bar Association/IMPACT as one of the top 40 lawyers under the age of 40.

Hill gives back to his community by serving with the Young Men with a Purpose mentor group, as well as the Georgia Pacific Community Advisory Board, the Board of Directors for the Partnership for Strong Families, the Board of Directors for the Community Partnership for Children, and the Board of Directors for the St. Johns River State College Foundation. He is the founder of Youth Explosion of Palatka, Inc., and he also served on the Board of Directors for the St. Johns Habitat for Humanity, the Executive Board of Directors and League General Counsel for the Putnam Pop Warner Association, and the NAACP.
