This week, St. Johns River State College highlights Viking baseball outfielder Myles Straw. The sophomore from Bradenton, Florida has been featured as an NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Baseball Player of the Week twice this season. His .442 batting average includes one home run, three doubles and four triples with 51 runs, 21 RBIs and 14 stolen bases for the season. Defensively, Myles has an impressive fielding percentage of .978, committing only two errors in the 45 games he has played for the Vikings, who are ranked second in the nation this week with an overall win-loss record of 41-7 and 16-3 in conference play. Myles has signed a Letter of Intent to continue his baseball career at the University of South Alabama, where he will major in sports management.

“Myles is an outstanding individual who excels in the classroom and on the field,” said SJR State Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach Ross Jones. “He is the perfect example of what we at SJR State expect from our student-athletes.”

Earlier this week the Vikings secured their fourth state tournament berth in the past six seasons with five regular season games remaining. They will play at home Saturday, April 18, against conference rival Daytona State College. The game will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Tindall Field on the Palatka campus.
