Nicole Brock - Softball

This week, St. Johns River State College highlights Viking softball pitcher/infielder Nicole Brock. The sophomore from Rincon, Georgia has made a name for herself on and off the field. As a freshman, Nicole was named to the FCSAA All Mid-Florida Conference second team, as well as the All-MFC and All-State softball academic teams. She was named SJR State’s female Student Athlete of the Year in 2014 and was recently recognized by Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

At the plate, Nicole boasts a .267 batting average for this season, including six doubles, 18 RBIs, 10 stolen bases and 29 runs scored. On the mound, Nicole has 16 wins and one save in the 17 games she started, with an earned run average of 1.33. Her impressive .941 fielding percentage this season includes three double plays.

“Nicole has received many accolades for her performance in the classroom and on the field,” said Head Softball Coach Katie Brosky.   “She is a shining example of what a student-athlete represents. You will be hard pressed to find someone who works harder and is better than Nicole.  We are truly blessed to have had her as part of our program for the past two years.”

Brock and her Viking teammates have secured their position in this year’s state tournament, which will begin May 1 at the Dodgertown complex in Vero Beach. This will be the Vikings’ third state tournament appearance in softball history, with previous appearances in 2011 and 2007. The Vikings will play at noon on May 1 against Panhandle Conference champion Chipola College.
