SJR State offers non-credit fitness classes

St. Johns River State College will offer a Zumba class on its Orange Park campus this summer.  The course, taught by instructor Jessica Resiga, will begin on May 27 and will be held on Wednesdays, from 5:35 – 6:35 p.m., through August 12.   Zumba combines Latin and international music with a fun and effective workout system.  Class participants are encouraged to wear sneakers and bring water. 

Instructor Gita Carpenter will teach Yoga Therapy on the St. Augustine campus on Wednesdays from 5:35 p.m. to 6:35 p.m.  The class will run June 3 through August 12. Yoga is an exercise that uses slow movements and stretching to increase flexibility and balance.  It is good for relaxation and relieving stress. 

A Re-fit dance fitness program will be led by instructor Salee Shackleford on the Palatka campus. Re-fit is a complete fitness training system for body development and conditioning. With inspiring music and easy-to-learn movements, the high-energy program focuses on a safe space which encourages participants of all shapes and sizes to work out to their own potential.  Classes will be held from 5:35 – 6:35 p.m. on Wednesdays, from May 20 through August 5. 

Registration for each of these courses is $40 for the general public.  SJR State employees may sign up for one of the courses at no charge under the College’s wellness program.
