SJR State’s Orange Park campus inducts 23 members into honor society

The St. Johns River State College Phi Theta Kappa honor society recently held its fall induction ceremony at the Orange Park campus, adding 23 new members to the Alpha Epsilon Lambda chapter.

PTK recognizes and encourages scholarship by providing two-year college students with opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship activities. Inductees are required to have completed 12 credit hours at a two-year institution and maintain a 3.5 grade point average.

The induction ceremony for the Alpha Epsilon Lambda chapter opened with the official Phi Theta Kappa song, and each inductee participated in the traditional lighting of candles, which represents the “flame of knowledge.” The guest speaker was SJR State business instructor Antionette Richardson, who was awarded an honorary membership into the chapter.

Chapter members inducted were: Michelle Aguinaga, Nathan Ball, Danielle Carlino, Shawna Curtis, Ryan Davis, Tammy deGraaf, Dulce Garcia, Athena Gilman, Morgan Holestin, Sabrina Hope, Mariah Johnson, Logan Jones, Travis Kerr, Rachel Magnasco, Sally Mendenhall, Abigail Millson, Paul (Ryan) Nalepa, Melody Miller, Kelly Nolan, Jessica O’Kelley, Jonathan (Jed) Palisoc, Brittany Rainwater and Alec Rance.

Chapter officers are: Don Lafond, faculty advisor; Catharine Yates, president; Alyssa Farmer, vice president; Ryan Davis, parliamentarian; Athena Gilman, treasurer; Shawna Curtis, secretary; Sarai Acevedo, public relations; Tammy deGraaf, chairperson of leadership; Mariah Johnson, chairperson of fellowship; Paul (Ryan) Nalepa, chairperson of fundraising; Dulce Garcia, chairperson of service; Giselle Feliciano, chairperson of scholarship.

Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in American higher education with more than 2.5 million members and 1,275 chapters located in 50 United States, U.S. territories, Canada, Germany, Peru, the British Virgin Islands, the Republic of Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands and the United Arab Emirates.
