SJR State, burn patient simulation

St. Johns River State College had its first interprofessional education burn patient simulation with Nova Southeastern University’s Jacksonville campus on Sept. 28.

Nova’s physician assistant (PA) students joined forces with SJR State’s paramedic, LPN to RN, and respiratory care students during six training simulations on SJR State’s St. Augustine campus.

Five faculty members and 38 students from SJR State collaborated with 15 faculty members and 54 students from Nova to conduct the simulations, which included an ambulance equipped with a burn patient manikin.

The purpose was to give students the full experience of treating a burn patient and to demonstrate how many different fields can be involved in administering care.
