Non-credit art history and drawing classes offered to the public
St. Johns River State College will offer art history and drawing courses this fall on the St. Augustine campus. The non-credit courses will be taught by local artist and Florida School of the Arts instructor David Ouellette.
Art History III – Into the Modern Era This course will cover art from Realism through the Impressionism and Post-Impressionism eras and into the 20th century. Students will study Modernism in Europe and America from 1900 to 1945: Avant-Garde, Fauvism, Expressionism, Cubism and Surrealism, as well as other movements through the latter 20th century: Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art, Post-Modernism and Contemporary art from 1945 to 1980.
The class will meet from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from August 30 to September 22 in room S-114 on the St. Augustine campus (course #CWR 0529). Registration for this course is $62.50.
Drawing I – This course is structured to develop basic drawing techniques by concentrating on the elements of descriptive drawing through observation. Students will develop the qualities of line, volume with a full range of values and compositional design, and linear perspective.
The class will meet from 2:30 – 5:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from September 27 through October 27 in room S-132 on the St. Augustine campus (course #CWR 0105B). Registration for this course is $80.00.
Art History I – Pre-Historic Aegean culture through Greek, Roman, Late Antiquity and Byzantine Art This course will cover the art of the Aegean culture, including the palaces, painting and sculpture of the Cycladic Islands, Crete and Mycenae. Students will study ancient Greek art from the emerging Geometric and Orientalizing periods through the Early and High Classical periods and the Hellenistic times. Roman art, with its many influences, will be reviewed from the Republic and the Early, High and Late Empirical times through Late Antiquity and Byzantine Art.
The class will meet from 2:30 -4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from November 1 through December 6 in room S-114 on the St. Augustine campus (course #CWR 0518). Registration for this course is $62.50.
