Viking Volleyball player signs with Georgia College

St. Johns River State College student-athlete Madison Speyerer recently signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball for Georgia College, in Milledgeville, Georgia, where she will study biology as she prepares for a career in dentistry. 

A graduate of Winter Haven High School, Madison was recently named SJR State’s 2016 female Student-Athlete of the Year.  She posted 1,016 assists and 342 digs during her two-year career as a setter for the Vikings, also recording 46 kills and 84.5 points, including 35 service aces, during the 60 matches in which she played. 

SJR State Head Volleyball Coach Jose Rivera said that although she will be missed, he is happy that Madison will be playing at the next level and wishes her luck at Georgia College. 

SJR State athletics consist of women’s volleyball, women’s fast pitch softball, and men’s baseball and are based on the Palatka campus. Information regarding SJR State athletics can be found at

The Vikings will hold a youth volleyball clinic July 18 – 21 for girls in grades 6 - 12.  Instruction on the fundamentals of volleyball will be provided by Rivera and the Viking student-athletes in the SJR State gymnasium located on the Palatka campus, 5001 St. Johns Avenue.  Registration is $40 per participant, and pre-registration is recommended.  Contact Rivera at (386) 312-4237 for more information.
