St. Johns River State College administrators, faculty and staff recently gathered to honor students on the Orange Park campus for their local, state and national academic achievements and participation in campus activities.
Giselle Feliciano, Martine Louis-Charles, Averi Jones, Rebekah Sookdeo and Andy Tzul were recognized as the 2016 inductees into the SJR State Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame award is presented each year to a select number of students who are recommended by faculty for their academic excellence and extracurricular involvement.
Students recognized for Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges were Brandon Buzard, Giselle Feliciano, Ashley Gloyd, Maureen Hernandez, Averi Jones, Rebecca Kolb, Joseph Loe, Martine Louis-Charles, Maria Sanchez, Gary Scott Jr., Rebekah Sookdeo, Zachery Taylor, Andy Tzul, Lucas Welch and Catharine Yates
Giselle Feliciano and Catharine Yates were recognized as being part of the All-USA Academic Team. Applicants are nominated each year for the prestigious Phi Theta Kappa honor society award. The team recognizes students for their academic achievement, leadership and service to their community.
Academic awards were also presented for excellence in biology, physics, humanities, computer science and more. Additional recognition went to representatives of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society and the Student Government Association, as well as to additional clubs including the Nature, Psychology and Rotaract clubs. SJR State’s campus life is an open door for students to meet new people and take part in a dynamic teamwork and leadership capacity in clubs and organizations. These clubs and organizations provide extracurricular activities on campus and an opportunity for the students to participate in community service projects.

Averi Jones, the Orange Park campus president of SJR State’s student government association, honors English professor Doug Ledbetter for his dedication and outstanding service. Ledbetter retires this spring after 33 years at the College. He is one of the original faculty members who began teaching in the campus portables during its launch in the 1980s.
