  PRESS RELEASE

OCTOBER 2016

SJR State conducts community interest, need survey

St. Johns River State College is reaching out to its students, community members, business leaders and the local industry to provide feedback on how the College can better meet the educational needs of Clay, Putnam and St. Johns counties.

An online survey will be available through November 15 for the community to specify where the biggest needs lie. Results from the survey could mean new certificate and degree programs being offered at the College.

SJR State President Joe Pickens said everyone is asked to participate in the online survey, where they may vote on which educational and workforce programming they would like to see made available within the College’s service district.

“As the community’s college, our mission is to promote excellence in teaching and learning to enrich the lives of our students and the communities we serve,” Pickens said. “We are interested in feedback from all of the constituents we serve to best assess our local needs. The goal is to get broad-based feedback to assist us in our future planning.”

The survey includes questions regarding various career clusters and occupations, including agriculture, food and natural resources, architecture and construction, hospitality and tourism, and health care.

SJR State last conducted a curriculum survey in 2009 following the Board’s approval to explore baccalaureate degrees. The survey resulted in a 90% response in favor of offering the four-year degrees. In addition to three bachelor’s degrees, the College has more recently offered programs in Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Paramedic, Robotics and Simulation, and Digital Forensics.

The College was established in 1958 as a public institution serving Putnam, Clay and St. Johns counties. St. Johns River State College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate and baccalaureate degrees. Contact the Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097 or call 404-679-4500 for questions about the accreditation of St. Johns River State College.
