Florida School of the Arts hosts Empty Bowls Project
In an effort to reach out to the community, the Florida Club of the Arts, an organization comprised of Florida School of the Arts students, will host an event in support of the Empty Bowls Project from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 15 at Beef O’ Brady’s, 201 North 1st Street, Palatka.
In its 25th year of existence, the Empty Bowls Project is a project of 501(c)3 organization Imagine/RENDER. The project is an international grassroots effort to raise money and awareness in the fight to end hunger.
According to the faculty sponsor Dan Askew, tickets for the event may be purchased for $10, although additional donations will be gratefully accepted. Diners attending the event are able to choose from a variety of ceramic bowls handcrafted by local student and professional artists and enjoy gourmet soups from local restaurants including Corky Bell’s Seafood, Musselwhite’s Seafood and Grill, Beef O’Brady’s, the Magnolia Café, and Creative Juices of St. Augustine.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Backpack program, which helps support the approximately 600 children enrolled in Putnam County schools whose household income is considered to be at or below the poverty level.
“Breakfast and lunch are provided at school for all students,” said Askew. “The Backpack program provides needy students with food to take home for the weekend.”
