Viking Volleyball player signs National Letter of Intent

Ashley SmithSt. Johns River State College student-athlete Ashley Smith recently signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball for Columbus State University in Georgia, where she will major in biology. 

The outside hitter from Coral Springs, Florida, is an NJCAA Academic All-American and a Mid-Florida Conference Scholar Athlete.  Smith scored 469.5 points, including 14 service aces, during her career as a Viking.  She also amassed 411 kills, eighth highest in the program’s history for all-time career kills, 1,240 attacks, 12 assists, 109 digs and 81 blocks during the 70 matches in which she played as a Viking. 

Regarding her experience as a Viking, Smith said “SJR State was a great stepping stone towards playing at the higher level.  I am grateful for all of the opportunities SJR State has provided me.” 

SJR State Head Volleyball Coach Jose Rivera said Ashley was a leader both on and off the court and will certainly be missed.  “We are very happy for Ashley and her family and wish her luck at Columbus State,” Rivera said.
