St. Johns River State College and First Coast School of Real Estate (FCSRE) recently signed a partnership that will provide a 63-hour pre-licensing course for real estate students. Coursework will begin in July on SJR State’s Orange Park campus and is open to all members of the community.

FCSRE President and Co-founder Stanley Bishop, a longtime resident of Clay County and graduate of SJR State, said, “It is an honor to be able to partner with the college I once attended. I believe this partnership will fill a void in the Northeast Florida area for students who are seeking an exciting and rewarding career in real estate.” Bishop added that he can personally attest to the variety of benefits that come from holding a real estate license. “Being a realtor myself, I know the many benefits this career can have,” he stated, “including opening so many doors for financial freedom and personal growth. Having a real estate license is one of the best decisions I made for my career. I'm fortunate that I can partner with my alma mater and make a difference in the community.”

Director of SJR State’s Business Education program Joel Abo said there’s no doubt that the partnership between the College and FCSRE creates a win-win situation. “FCSRE is able to access and market to our students, which provides our students additional educational and career opportunities,” he said, adding that when higher education and local businesses partner, an important workforce need in the community is met. During the partnership signing, SJR State President Joe Pickens spoke at length about how invaluable such partnerships prove to be to the community as a whole.

Vice President for Workforce Development and Orange Park campus Executive Director Anna Lebesch said, “We are excited about providing our community another new training opportunity through this partnership, and it is especially meaningful to be providing this service with an alumnus of our own institution.”

The first real estate pre-licensing course is planned for Tuesday and Thursday evenings, July 25 to October 5, from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. Students are required to complete 63 classroom hours, followed by passing a classroom exam with a score of 70 percent or higher. Passing the pre-licensing test permits students to take the state Real Estate Sales Associate Exam, which requires a score of 75 percent or higher to pass.
