Non-credit art classes offered to the public

St. Johns River State College will offer art history and watercolor leisure courses this fall on the St. Augustine campus.  The non-credit courses will be taught by local artist and Florida School of the Arts instructor David Ouellette.    

Art History IA - The course will cover the art of the Aegean culture, including the palaces, paintings and sculptures of the Cyclades islands, Crete and Mycenae. Students will study ancient Greek art, from the emerging Geometric and Orientalizing periods through the Early and High Classical periods and Hellenistic times.  Students will also study Etruscan and Roman art, from Republican, Early, High and Late Empirical times, as well as the art of the Eastern Byzantine and Western Medieval worlds.  The class will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. from November 2 through December 7 on the St. Augustine campus, Room S-114. Registration for the non-credit course is $45.00. 

Watercolor I - This course is intended to instruct the student on the techniques of the watercolor medium using both the wet and dry methods with emphasis on composition, color arrangement and particular methods of brush-handling.  There will be regular critiques and out of class assignments. The class will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m., from October 3 through October 31, on the St. Augustine campus, room S-132.  Registration for the non-credit course is $65.00; the class will be limited to 12 students.
 
There are no requirements or prerequisites to register for these courses.  To register, download the continuing education registration form from the College website at SJRstate.edu/continuinged.html.
