SJR State to honor graduates May 5
St. Johns River State College will celebrate its spring commencement on May 5. The College will acknowledge the associate and baccalaureate degree candidates, as well as its certificate candidates, from the Orange Park, Palatka and St. Augustine campuses.
The Spring commencement is set for 10:00 a.m. at the Thrasher-Horne Center located on the SJR State Orange Park campus. Doors open at 9:00 a.m.
SJR State President Joe Pickens, J.D., has announced Clay County Sheriff Darryl Daniels as the commencement speaker.
Following two honorable discharges from the United States Naval Academy, Daniel’s extensive career in law enforcement began with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. His 25 years includes working in patrol, internal affairs, traffic, accreditation and staff inspections. Areas under his command have included crime analysis, information systems management, emergency preparedness, auto burglary taskforce, jails division, and the health services division. During his career, he has advanced through the ranks from officer, sergeant, lieutenant, assistant chief and division chief.
Sheriff Daniels holds bachelor’s degrees in criminal justice administration and multi-disciplinary studies as well as a master’s degree in religion.
The Thrasher-Horne Center is owned and operated by SJR State and is located on the Orange Park campus at 283 College Drive.
