Cybill Winkel was the recipient of the Dr. Applewhite Humanitarian Scholarship Award. The scholarship was created in honor of the late SJR State science professor Dr. Doug Applewhite and is awarded each year to one student for his or her diligent community efforts.

Students recognized for Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges were: John Stephen Blackman, Hope Broskie, Alexis Boulter, Julian Buchanan, Monique Corrigan, Desiree Jones, Eugenia Lara, Emanuel  Mara, Joel Mitchell, Brittany Pina, Lindsey Stewart, Michelle Terrell, Yvette Von Loh, Patricia Yates and Samantha Williams.

The Student Leadership Award was presented to Yvette Von Loh.  Von Loh serves as the St. Augustine campus’s Student Government Association president, and is the first student at SJR State to serve in office for the Florida College System Student Government Association. She was elected State Secretary.

Also during the ceremony, the SJR State Student Government Association presented history instructor Matthew Giddings with the Professor of the Year award.

Additional academic awards were presented, as well as recognition for members and officers of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society and the gaming, Spanish, Rotaract and art clubs.  SJR State’s active campus life is an open door for students to meet new people and take part in a dynamic teamwork and leadership capacity in clubs and organizations.  These clubs and organizations provide extracurricular activities on campus and an opportunity for the students to participate in community service projects.
