Florida School of the Arts visual art students will display their work at an upcoming graduate exhibition. An opening reception will be held to honor the work of three graduating students on Thursday, May 24 at 7:00 p.m. in the Florida School of the Arts main gallery, located on the St. Johns River State College Palatka campus. The event is free and open to the public.

This year’s participants are students Catt Pecknold, Sarah Redenius and Patrice Williams.

Askew said that all visual art students, as part of their required Portfolio Presentation: Capstone Seminar course, are asked to take an introspective look at their development as an artist and produce a body of work outside of the normal FloArts curriculum. “Upon completion of the course, they will install their own exhibition of that work, along with some of their stronger pieces done at FloArts,” said Askew, adding “The opening of these exhibitions also gives the artists the opportunity to share their studio practices and conceptual process with an attending audience who are usually quite inquisitive about the work.”

The exhibits will be on display through June 25. Gallery hours are Monday – Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and during evening Main Stage performances.

Florida School of the Arts is part of the academic and administrative structure of SJR State and awards the two-year associate degree. The School serves the entire state of Florida and is located on the SJR State Palatka campus. For more information, call 386-312-4300 or visit the website at floarts.org.
