SJR State to honor graduates May 4
St. Johns River State College will celebrate its spring commencement on May 4. The College will acknowledge the associate and baccalaureate degree candidates, as well as its certificate candidates, from the Orange Park, Palatka and St. Augustine campuses.
The ceremony is set for 10:00 a.m. at the Thrasher-Horne Center located on the SJR State Orange Park campus. Doors open at 9:00 a.m.
SJR State President Joe Pickens, J.D., has announced Florida House Representative Bobby Payne as the commencement speaker. Rep. Payne serves District 19, which covers all of Bradford, Putnam and Union counties as well as the southern and central portions of Clay County.
Payne has been employed by Seminole Electric Cooperative, Inc., for 37 years in numerous management positions and currently works as a senior project development representative within the technical services and development department. Payne is a Putnam County native and a St. Johns River State College alumnus who played for the Viking baseball team on scholarship before continuing his education at Jacksonville University. He then continued his education at Nova Southeastern University earning a master of business administration.
The Thrasher-Horne Center is owned and operated by SJR State and is located on the Orange Park campus at 283 College Drive.
