April 28 - May 9, 2018
The trip will occur between Spring Term 2018 and Summer Term A 2018.
All student participants are required to take one of three hybrid courses in Summer Term 1:
- LIT 2182 Modern Irish Literature, or
- CRW 2001 Creative Writing
The trip will cost approximately $2800, including air and ground transportation, all excursions, and two dinners and all buffet breakfasts, excluding lunch and most dinner meals.
This year's trip will begin in the capital city of Dublin, the site of much Irish literature (including James Joyce, Brendan Behan, W.B. Yeats, Flann O’Brien, and Oscar Wilde).
Then we will visit New Grange, an early Celtic chamber tomb, more significant than Stonehenge. We will then go to Sligo, Yeats's beloved childhood home. We will see a fjord in County Mayo near Westport before going to Galway and the Aran Islands where we will see the Cliffs of Moher from below.
Then we will go to County Kerry, visiting the Dingle peninsula and Killarney, where mountains come down to a lake we will visit by boat. Finally, we will visit the ancient monastery of Glendalough, site of scenes from Game of Thrones, on our way back to Dublin before we fly home.
