SJR State students honored at annual awards ceremony
St. Johns River State College administrators, faculty and staff recently gathered to honor students on the Palatka campus for their academic achievements and participation in club activities.
Wendell Chester, Hollie Harrell, David Holland, Steven Middlebrook and Selena Nunez were inducted into the SJR State Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame award is presented each year to a select number of students who are recommended by faculty for their academic excellence and extracurricular involvement.
The Dr. Gary B. Lott Memorial Scholarship, in honor of the late SJR State administrator, was awarded to nursing student Charlene Semidey.
Additional students were honored for their academic excellence. The Milton Speaks Science Award was presented to Amanda Jessel. Audrey Johnson was the recipient of the Nora Michaels English Award. The mathematics award was presented to Alexander Davis. Michael Preslar was presented with the BAS Organizational Management Award.
Two nursing awards were also presented. Phuong Nguyen was the recipient of the Nursing Perseverance Award and Victoria White was presented with the Nursing Academic Achievement Award.
Additional recognition went to representatives of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, the Delta Psi Omega honor society, the Student Government Association, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Student Nursing Association and the Gaming Club.
SJR State’s active campus life is an open door for students to meet new people and take part in a dynamic teamwork and leadership capacity in clubs and organizations. These clubs and organizations provide extracurricular activities on campus and an opportunity for the students to participate in community service projects.
