SJR State announces student athletes of the year
St. Johns River State College baseball player Chase Malloy and volleyball player Dariana Luna were recently announced as the College's Student Athletes of the Year.
A second baseman and leadoff hitter, Malloy is a business major from Trenton, Florida. The recipient of the John Tindall Memorial Scholarship, Malloy was a freshman Third Team Academic All-American and sophomore Second Team Academic All-American, as well as a two-time selection for the Academic Mid-Florida Conference and FCSAA Academic All-State.
A freshman and volleyball starting libero from Caracus, Venezuela, Luna graduated from Western High School in Davie, Florida and is majoring in psychology. With a 4.00 GPA, Luna earned the First Team NJCAA Academic All-American. Her record also includes the Academic Mid-Florida Conference and FCSAA Academic All-State.
About the 2019/2020 academic year, Head Baseball Coach Ross Jones noted that 25 SJR State student-athletes achieved a GPA of 3.00, earning Academic All-Conference Awards. Additionally, 19 student-athletes achieved a 3.30 GPA, earning FCSAA Academic All-State Awards. Jones added that the six student-athletes who earned a GPA of 3.60 also earned NJCAA Academic All-American Awards. They are baseball players Kaven Kroll, Third Team, and Malloy, Second Team; volleyball player Luna, First Team; and softball players Kathleen Ingram, Third Team, and Breanna Cefaliello and Soraya Hernandez, both Second Team.
