The Department of Workforce Services is supported in part by the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Grant.  The Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education grant is awarded from the United States Department of Education to the state of Florida and then allocated by the Florida Department of Education to various schools and colleges.  The Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act of 2006 was signed into law on August 12, 2006.  Perkins IV began on July 1, 2007 and it replaced the 1998 Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act (Perkins III).  Florida chose to prepare a one-year Transition Plan for 2007-2008 and a five-year State Plan covering 2008-2013.  The United States Department of Education (USDOE), Office of Career, Technical and Adult Education (OCTAE) approved Florida’s Perkins IV State Plan in June of 2008.
