SJR STATE ALUMNI SPOTLIGHTS
APRIL 2015
Allana Alexander, Pharm.D. (2007)
Pharmacist

Each week, St. Johns River State College will honor one of its own in an alumni salute, celebrating the career milestones, community contributions and personal reflections of those who began their collegiate journey as SJR State Vikings.
Allana Alexander’s curiosity about medicine and passion for helping others began at an early age as she watched her mother work at her hometown drugstore and assisted with her grandmother’s health care. It was upon taking a health profession course as an undergraduate that she decided to become part of what she considers to be an outstanding profession.
After graduating from SJR State with her Associate in Arts degree, Allana transferred to the University of Florida, where she received her bachelor’s degree in biology. Allana was then accepted into the Doctor of Pharmacy program at Samford University’s McWhorter School of Pharmacy in Birmingham, Alabama, completing the program in 2014.
Allana recently accepted a full-time position with CVS Pharmacy in Alabama, where she uses her knowledge to assist and improve the lives of her customers. Allana also volunteers for the McWhorter School of Pharmacy as a pharmacist preceptor, accompanying and supervising pharmacy students at health clinics to better hone their skills as pharmacist candidates.
She is a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, where she serves on the environmental ownership and scholarship committees. Allana also prepares classroom emergency kits for natural disasters, provides snacks in backpacks for the Shelby County youth and conducts projects devoted to heart disease awareness. As a member of the New Vision Christian Church medical ministry, she provides medical counseling and gives presentations on health-related topics.
Allana states that the education she received at SJR State set the foundation for her advanced degree training. “I soon learned that having instructors who held additional study sessions or office hours to assist their students, like at SJR State, was a rarity if not a luxury,” she said. “The consideration and care I received from the instructors is the same that I try to emulate when working with students today. Overall, my experience at SJR State was unique, growth-inspiring and a foundation for my journey of lifelong learning.”
