This week, St. Johns River State College is honoring THREE of its own in an alumni salute, celebrating the career milestones, community contributions and personal reflections of three sisters who began their collegiate journey as SJR State Vikings.
Meet the Blankenbiller sisters!
What were some of your greatest memories/accomplishments and/or challenges at SJR State?
Megan: The wonderful professors! You could tell they truly cared about the students and were willing to help. Some of my favorite professors were Professors Lafond, Ledbetter, Lyons and Waters.
Rachel: Some of my greatest memories occurred taking classes with professors who also taught my sisters, including Professors Ledbetter, Lyons and Lafond. I also remember playing pool in the student center during breaks.
Cristina: I enjoyed the clinical rotations and all the great staff. The most challenging memory I have was learning radiologic physics.
Please explain your current work and what you enjoy most about it.
Megan: I qualify safe and responsible carriers to haul for Landstar. I enjoy that my company is ever-changing and forward-thinking to ensure the best possible service is provided.
Rachel: I am a Branch Manager at 121 Financial Credit Union and love that I can truly make an impact on someone's life. Whether it be helping a member get their first car, learn how to improve their credit, or creating a budget with them, I know I am helping benefit them and that makes me happy. I also love being a leader and developing my team. Helping and watching them reach their professional goals gives me a sense of purpose.
Cristina: I am a clinical supervisor for Memorial Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. I love that I am in a leadership position that allows me to still provide direct patient care.
Did you receive any awards while at SJR State?
Megan: I was a proud member of Phi Theta Kappa and was on the Dean's List. I also loved being part of the Writer's Society.
Rachel: I was a member of Phi Theta Kappa and graduated with honors.
Cristina: I was a member of Phi Theta Kappa and graduated with honors.
Please list the community service work you are involved in.
Megan: I like to help out at local soup kitchens and senior homes.
Rachel: I visit schools and lower-income workforce programs to help teach financial literacy in the community.
