Clay County Property Appraiser / State-Certified General Real Estate Appraiser

Roger Suggs

Each week, St. Johns River State College will honor one of its own in an alumni salute, celebrating the career milestones, community contributions and personal reflections of those who began their collegiate journey as SJR State Vikings.

Before being elected Clay County Property Appraiser in 2009, Roger Suggs’ extensive career in the assessment/appraisal field includes serving as the assistant Clay County Property Appraiser and as the regional supervisor for the Florida Department of Revenue.

Roger was honored as the first person in Florida to receive the Assessment Administration Specialist (AAS) designation by the International Association of Assessing Officers. He also served as President for the Florida Association of Property Appraisers, Inc.

Roger began his college education at SJR State by earning his Associate in Arts degree. He then went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Saint Leo University.

As an active member of his community, Roger participates in organizations like the Clay County Cattlemen’s Corporation, the Clay County Farm Bureau, and the Advisory Council of the Salvation Army. He was also the past president of the Rotary Club of Green Cove Springs.

Like many non-traditional students with family and career responsibilities, Roger enrolled in college after being in the workforce for almost 20 years. “I was employed fulltime, and my only real option was to attend classes at night. I found the College’s curriculum to be very accommodating, and the quality of the learning process was outstanding. Clay County is blessed to have such an excellent institution within its borders. I am very proud to be a St. Johns River State College alumnus.”
