Florida School of the Arts presents French artist Beate Renner
The Florida School of the Arts (FloArts) will present a gallery exhibition featuring paintings by French artist Beate Renner. With Renner present, the exhibit, titled “Inside Out,” will open with a reception on Thursday, August 30 at 7:00 p.m. in the Fine Arts Gallery located on St. Johns River State College’s Palatka campus. The public is invited to come meet Renner and view her exhibit, which is free and open to the public. “Inside Out” will be on display through October 1. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and during Main Stage performances.
FloArts Dean Alain Hentschel said, “It is the good fortune of Florida School of the Arts to have this important artist with us to share her work and experiences.”
Renner, whose work has been exhibited internationally, has a background in art and film studies, as well as theater aesthetics and literature. Born in Germany, Renner has lived and worked in Paris, France since the age of 20. She studied art at the Santa Monica College, the École Boulle and the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts as well as the École des Arts et Métiers in Paris. She complemented her art studies with courses in theatre aesthetics and comparative literature at Paris’ Sorbonne University.
“Ms. Renner not only brings a wealth of academic and historical knowledge to her canvases, but the world as she has experienced it through extensive travel,” Hentschel said. “Her ‘Journey to the East’ project (1998-2003), a series of exhibitions of paintings in six different places, or stages (Oman, the Maldives, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, China) took her on a voyage that replicated aspects of the ancient Silk Road, an actual and also mythic path through the early civilized world. This personal trajectory gives us insight into her world-view and the importance of the arts within it.”
Florida School of the Arts is part of the academic and administrative structure of SJR State and awards the two-year associate degree in the following areas of study: acting, dance performance, musical theater, stage management, theater technology, graphic design/new media and studio art. The School serves the entire state of Florida. Admission is based on an audition or portfolio review, an interview with the faculty and admission to SJR State.
