SJR State to offer youth volleyball camps
St. Johns River State College will hold three age-specific youth volleyball clinics in July. Instruction on the fundamentals of volleyball will be provided by Head Volleyball Coach Matt Cohen and the Viking student-athletes. No experience is necessary to attend the camps.
A kids camp for girls and boys entering grades 3-8 will be held from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. daily from July 17-19. Registration is $45. Campers will be grouped by age and skill level to learn the basics of volleyball, including passing, serving, attacking and digging.
An all skills camp for girls entering grades 7-12 will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. daily from July 24-26. Registration is $60. Campers will be grouped by age and skill level to learn skills used for specific positions such as the setter, outside hitter, middle hitter and libero. Team offensive and defensive systems will also be introduced.
A tryout clinic for girls entering grades 7-12 who plan on trying out for their school teams will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 28. Registration is $45. Attendees will learn game techniques in passing, serving, hitting and blocking, as well as defensive skills, during the morning session. After a brief lunch break, the afternoon session will focus on preparing the prospective athletes for their upcoming team tryouts using skills learned in the morning session. Lunch will not be provided.
