Vikings receive All-Conference honors

Three Viking student-athletes have been named to the 2018 All Mid-Florida Conference team for softball. Sophomore Selena Bezares is an All Mid-Florida Conference first team selection. Sophomore Selena Nunez and freshman Kelsea Friend were selected for the All Mid-Florida Conference second team.

A second team selection for last year’s All Mid-Florida Conference team, Bezares returns as a first team selection this year. The infielder from Plant City was an anchor for the Viking offense, batting .361 for the season with 26 runs on 61 hits, including 11 doubles, 15 home runs and 54 runs batted in (RBIs). Her .692 slugging percentage and .407 on base percentage are also commendable.

All-Conference second team selection Nunez was also a strong force in the Viking lineup this season, batting .333 with 20 runs on 30 hits, including four doubles, four home runs, 14 RBIs and three stolen bases. A transfer from Northwest Florida State College, the Apopka native also boasts .459 on base and .511 slugging percentages for the season.

Also an All-Conference second team selection, outfielder Kelsea Friend made a big impression during her freshman season, batting .355 with 30 runs on 49 hits, including a double and 12 RBIs. Once she was on base, Friend was a formidable challenge for her opponents, successfully stealing 19 bases for the season.

The Viking softball team ended its 2018 season at 27-26 and 5-19 in conference play.
