SJR State holds nursing pinning ceremony
by Penny Powell
St. Johns River State College recently held a pinning ceremony to recognize students in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Associate in Science in Nursing (ASN), and Practical Nursing (PN) programs. The pinning ceremony, which is a continued tradition of Florence Nightingale’s extended honor to her most outstanding nurses, symbolizes the rite of passage into the nursing profession and the care and devotion nurses provide.
Clay County ASN student Michael Lucas and Putnam County PN student Latacha Torrance were recognized with the Florence Nightingale Award for “demonstrating outstanding scholarship, compassion toward others, leadership in class and devotion to clients and their families” throughout their two-year program. ASN student Alison Williams from St. Johns County and PN student Shelendale Nixon from Putnam County received the Academic Excellence Award for “strength and dedication in achieving and maintaining academic excellence” during the program.
