SJR State to present distinguished alumni awards
St. Johns River State College (SJR State) will present the 2019 Distinguished Alumni Awards on Thursday, October 3.
This year’s ceremony will be held at The River House in St. Augustine, honoring six alumni from St. Johns County who have made an impact on their respective industries and communities.
The College introduced the awards in 2018 during its 60th anniversary and will continue the tradition each year, alternating between counties within its service district. The Distinguished Alumni Awards brings alumni, faculty, staff and the community together to celebrate the professional and personal achievements of the recipients.
The event is presented by the SJR State Foundation and includes a cocktail reception and dinner. All guests are encouraged to purchase tickets to the event by Sept. 26. Tables and sponsorships are also available.
The alumni being recognized for 2019 are:
Judge John M. Alexander (’74), 7th Circuit Administrative Judge for Family Court
Margo Cox Pope (’68), Journalist, St. Augustine Record
Greg Baker (’67), Chairman, Thompson Baker Agency, Insurance/Financial Services
Sheriff David B. Shoar (’87), St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office
Rebecca A. Faunce-O’Leary, DMD, PA, (’85), President, Antigua Orthodontics
Doug Wiles (’72), President, Herbie Wiles Insurance
In 1958, SJR State began serving the Putnam County community with just 191 students. The college has expanded to serve the communities of St. Johns and Clay counties and now serves approximately 11,000 students.
