SJR State announces student athletes of the year
St. Johns River State College recently announced Brooklynn Basile, softball utility player, and Darin Kilfoyl, baseball pitcher, as the College’s Student Athletes of the Year.
Basile, from Brandon, has maintained a 4.0 GPA during the last three semesters at SJR State. She has appeared in 50 SJR State games and started in 40 of them. Basile plans to remain at SJR State and enroll in the nursing program, while continuing with the Vikings softball program as a team manager. She aspires to become a pediatric nurse because of her love for kids and helping others.
Kilfoyl, from Land O’ Lakes, will study civil engineering at the University of North Florida. During both his freshman and sophomore year at SJR State, Kilfoyl was selected for the Mid-Florida Conference All-Academic Baseball Team, the FCSAA All-Academic Baseball Team and the NJCAA First Team Academic All-America. During his sophomore year, Kilfoyl was awarded the John C. Tindall Endowed Scholarship for his exemplary work ethic, leadership and performance both on the field and in the classroom. Kilfoyl was also named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges and inducted into SJR State’s Hall of Fame.
SJR State athletics consist of women’s volleyball, women’s fastpitch softball, and men’s baseball and are based on the Palatka campus. For more information about SJR State athletics, visit SJRvikings.com.
