SJR State Foundation welcomes Brian Bergen
St. Johns River State College (SJR State) welcomes Brian Bergen as its new director of fundraising and alumni engagement of the College’s Foundation, which exists to support the growth and development of SJR State students and the College community in Clay, Putnam and St. Johns counties. Bergen will oversee the Foundation, including handling daily operations, fundraising efforts and community outreach, and will also work closely with SJR State donors and members of the board of directors on cultivating philanthropic support for the College.
According to SJR State Vice President for Development and External Affairs Caroline Tingle, “We are confident that Brian will bring talent, energy and focus to the SJR State Foundation. The support of the community has always been a constant in the 60-plus year history at SJR State, and the Foundation has certainly played a fundamental role in strengthening this relationship.”
Bergen, who most recently served as vice president of economic development at the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce, brings an extensive background to the SJR State Foundation. “Brain’s previous leadership experience with the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce and his passion for our community have prepared him to take on this position,” said Tingle.
Bergen holds a bachelor of science degree in business administration with a minor in economics from Indiana State University. Additionally, he holds specialized certifications in community development and grant administration. At SJR State, Bergen’s efforts will focus on continuing with the high level of private support required for the Foundation to maintain access to quality and affordable education within the communities the College serves.
As the Foundation celebrates its 50 years of service, Tingle said, “We are thrilled that Brian will be joining our team during this exciting time and leading the Foundation in our tireless commitment to students. In the 50 years since its founding, the SJR State Foundation has not wavered in its commitment to serve students and the entire college community, and Brian comes at a time when we’re proudly reflecting on our success and preparing to move it forward.”
The SJR State Foundation offers numerous scholarships to students. For additional information about the Foundation and these scholarships funded by the contributions of businesses, non-profit entities and individuals, visit https://www.sjrstate.edu/foundation.html.
