FloArts announces Empty Bowls fundraiser
FloArts students and faculty prepare for the annual Empty Bowls fundraiser (from 2018).
Back by popular demand! Florida School of the Arts students are preparing for this year’s Empty Bowls fundraiser, a grassroots effort to raise money and awareness in the fight to end hunger in Putnam County. The Azalea City Brewing Company, located in Palatka, will host the event on Monday, November 13, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.
According to FloArts faculty sponsor Dan Askew, diners attending the event can choose from a variety of ceramic bowls handcrafted by students/faculty and enjoy food samples from local restaurants. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the door. The event is first-come, first-served, while supplies last.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Feed the Need of Putnam County, under the direction of Denise Bramlitt. The organization helps support children enrolled in Putnam County schools whose household income is considered to be at or below the poverty level. “While breakfast and lunch are provided at school for all students, the Feed the Need program provides needy students with food to take home for the weekend,” Askew said.
Florida School of the Arts is part of the academic and administrative structure of St. Johns River State College and awards the two-year associate degree. The School serves the entire state of Florida and is located on the SJR State Palatka campus.
