St. Johns River State College baseball catcher Tripp Davis was recently awarded a “deserving walk-on scholarship.” According to head baseball coach Ross Jones, it was an easy decision.

“Tripp Davis was that player who has exceeded expectations,” Jones said. “In Tripp’s two and a half years at SJR State, he has not only developed into a solid baseball player for our program, he has become a leader. He has earned his opportunity and this scholarship.”

Tripp is a former catcher from Union County High School in Lake Butler. He is a member of the 2023 Vikings team that won the college’s first-ever state championship and placed third in the NJCAA D2 World Series.

SJR State is home to one of the first baseball teams within the Florida College system. In 1961, the Vikings took the field for the first time and have since dedicated the past 60 years to building a solid reputation for producing superior student-athletes.
