FloArts brings the artistry of choreographers to Thrasher-Horne Center
Fall choreography dance concert “Shift”
Florida School of the Arts presents the fall choreography dance concert “Shift” November 14 – 16. The performance embodies the collaborative and creative spirit of FloArts, showcasing the work of emerging student choreographers, faculty, alumni and guest artists.
FloArts brings the performance to the St. Johns River State College Orange Park campus during the school’s yearlong renovation at its Palatka campus location. The show runs Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., with 2:30 p.m. matinees on Saturday and Sunday at the Thrasher-Horne Center. Admission is $13. Tickets can be purchased online in advance or at the box office one hour before showtime.
Dance faculty and concert directors Jessica Mayhew-Borrero and Andrea Montez said the performance implies change, evolution or redirection, with each dance piece offering its own unique perspective.
“This production celebrates the artistry of student choreographers, whose works are evaluated by guest artists and faculty,” Montez said. “Chosen pieces are featured in the choreography concert, offering students firsthand experience with a professional creative process.” Under the mentorship of directors and faculty, students also gain hands-on experience with essential production elements, such as lighting, costume, and sound design.
FloArts also welcomes alumna Amaani Grant to choreograph a vibrant Afro-fusion dance piece for “Shift.” Now based in Miami, Grant returned to FloArts in September to set her choreography during an intensive eight-hour rehearsal process. Cast members shared that the experience immersed them in Grant’s Jamaican heritage and fostered a strong sense of unity. Her dynamic work, “Ignite,” is sure to be a highlight of the concert.
FloArts dancers include: Jasmine Bruce, Isabella Casillas, Arianna Dice, Isabella Derbani-Adjutant, Zoe Elixson, Peyton Goetz, Mariengelis Gonzalez, Jalen Hardy, Cassidy Heath, Kailani Jackson, Ian Leduc, Rory Legg, Charlie Mack, Andrew McClellan, Makari Nealy, Rose Roberts, Kylie Stecher, Joellie Tucker, Israel White, and Naomi Williams.
Florida School of the Arts, serving the entire state of Florida, is part of the academic and administrative structure of SJR State and awards associate degrees in acting, dance performance, musical theater, stage management, theater technology, graphic design/new media and studio art.
