Florida School of the Arts presents 3 Continuities: A tribute to the continuous evolution of abstract art, featuring the works of three distinctive Florida artists -
David Engdahl, Joe Segal and Larry Spear. The exhibit opens with a reception on Thursday, January 16 at 5:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Larry W. Spear - brings vibrant canvases that resonate with the energy of mysticism and intuitive flow.
Joe Segal - presents minimalist sculptures, where wood and metal meet to evoke nature's order and man's desire for harmony.
David Engdahl - offers captivating, dynamic forms, merging organic textures with striking geometric design.
According to FloArts gallery director Sarah Alexander Bjorn, each year outside artists are invited to showcase their work. “Our purpose for the gallery is to exhibit artists whose work shows a high degree of skill, professionalism and craft to the students and community, fostering creativity and communicating varying ideas, whether that be ideas of beauty, social and economic concerns, the interior world of the artist,” Bjorn said.
“I frame the work of the artist as a mirror of the world, of what is going on in society or individual concerns that are being mirrored, to challenge, to make aware, or to simply appreciate. The students benefit from seeing the work of artists outside of their norm, so that when they have a show of their own, there is a standard being presented to strive for.”
The exhibit can be viewed 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and during FloArts main stage performances through March 3.
