After a yearlong renovation, Florida School of the Arts is open and will present its first performance in the new facility. “Boeing Boeing,” by Marc Camoletti and translated by Beverley Cross and Francis Evans runs Oct. 23- 25.
This 1960s French farce features self-styled Parisian lothario Bernard, a charming bachelor who thinks he’s perfected the art of juggling three flight attendant fiancées until an unexpected airline schedule change brings them all to town at the same time.
FloArts instructor and play director Ryan Mahannah said the show is fast, physical, ridiculous, and requires an incredible amount of precision from the actors. “Farce only works when everyone fully commits to the circumstances, no matter how outrageous they become, and this cast has really embraced that challenge,” Mahannah said. “We’re excited for audiences to come laugh with us and experience this wonderfully chaotic world.”
Mahannah said this production is especially exciting because it’s the first play to be performed in the newly renovated Mainstage Theatre. “There’s something really special about getting to introduce audiences to a new performance venue with a comedy like this,” he said. “It gives our students an opportunity to make a little bit of FloArts history, and I can’t think of a better way to open the space than with a show that is energetic, joyful, and built around the connection between actors and a live audience.”
Performance times at the FloArts Mainstage Theater:
Friday, October 23 - 7:30 p.m. (ASL interpreted performance)
Saturday, October 24 - 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
